Privacy policy

The short version
- Your audio and the text made from it pass through Truespoken’s server to be transcribed and styled. They are not stored, and nobody reads them.
- Your dictation history, recordings and personal dictionary stay on your Mac.
- The server keeps your account, your devices and a count of the words you used — never what you said.
- We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use your dictations to train models.
When you dictate
When you finish speaking, the Truespoken app sends the recording to Truespoken’s server, along with your chosen style, language and personal dictionary. The server sends the audio to Groq to be transcribed and, for styles, translation and review, sends the text to a Groq-hosted language model. The result goes back to your Mac and is inserted where your cursor is.
The server holds the audio and text in memory only while it works on them. It does not write them to disk, to the database or to logs. Groq processes them under its own privacy policy.
If the server can’t be reached, or you’re out of words, your Mac transcribes the recording on its own with Apple’s on-device speech recognition, and nothing leaves your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
Your dictation history, the recordings behind it, your personal dictionary and your settings are kept on your Mac, in Truespoken’s own folder. You can delete them from the app at any time. Truespoken’s server never has a copy.
What the server keeps
- Your account: the ID of your sign-in account and your plan.
- Your devices: each Mac you sign in on, named after the Mac’s name, with when it was added and last used. The token each Mac uses is stored only as a one-way hash.
- Extra words: how many you bought and when.
- Usage: one row per dictation with the number of words, the length of the audio, how long processing took and what it cost us. Never the audio or the text.
- Logs: timings, errors and which device made a request, kept by our host for a limited time. Never the audio or the text.
Signing in
Accounts are run by Clerk. When you sign in with Apple, Google, GitHub or an email code, Clerk keeps your email address and the basic profile that provider shares. Truespoken’s server receives only your Clerk account ID.
Paying
When Pro checkout opens, the subscription will be handled by Clerk Billing and Stripe. Extra words are paid through Stripe Checkout. Truespoken never sees your card number; the server keeps how many extra words you bought and the Stripe checkout they came from.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address and the language of the page you used, and use them only to email you once, when Truespoken is ready. That email has an unsubscribe link, and if you ask us, we delete your address.
Who processes data for us
- Groq — transcription and language models.
- Clerk — sign-in and accounts.
- Stripe — payments.
- Neon — the database with accounts, devices, usage and the waitlist.
- Resend — sends the one email to the waitlist.
- Fly.io — runs Truespoken’s server.
- Cloudflare — serves this website.
Deleting your account
In Truespoken, open Settings → Account → Delete Account. That deletes your account at Clerk and every row about you on Truespoken’s server: devices and usage included. What’s on your Mac stays there until you delete it.
